Can POD licenses be transferred between SAN switches ?

ok, so we have a number of B300 switches, all originally purchased with default 8 port activation and all have had an additional 8 port license; i.e. all with 16 ports active.

I will be buying another B300 which will be used for DEV work or as a spare. What I need to know is if i use this new B300 to replace one of my existing production B300 going faulty, can I transfer the additional 8 POD license to the new switch ? If possible is there a procedure for this ?

thanks.

Licenses are based on the wwn of the switch.

In director class switches its possible to transfer the licence to another chassis by moving the wwn card.

AFAIK this is not possible with pizzabox units.

Re: Can POD licenses be transferred between SAN switches ?

The OEMs, partners and Brocade can do a license "transport" from one box to another box because the B300 is a single FRU unit. But they will only do it in case of a valid mainentance contract and if they have to replace the entire switch.

As an customer you have no way to transfer the POD lic.

I hope this helps,

Andreas
