Can DCFM alerts show devices connected?

All,

I am wondering if there is a way when DCFM alerts are generated, for the alert to show the name of the device (server, filer, etc) that is connected to that particular port in addition to the port name?  For example, here is an alert: "Event: A fiber channel port changed it's operational state; port 164 (a4) changed operational state to offline".  Instead of simply seeing "port 164 (a4)", can this be changed somehow to show say, "port 164 (a4) SERVER NAME"?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Can DCFM alerts show devices connected?

You have to set your portnames. Then you will get in some SAN switch messages the portname as a part of the error message which is very useful.

I run some scripts to set the port name each day on all SAN switches. This is not part of DCFM or BNA.

This is the way which works for my environment.

I have not seen such a function within DCFM.

I hope this helps,

Andreas

Thanks for that tip.  After a port name change, is it "hit or miss" that the name given to the port will show?  Also, is there any difference if I change the port names through CLI or Port Admin?

Hi,

not all messages will provide the portname information.

What do you mean with "hit or mis"?
