Brocade Silkworm 3000 (MSA 2/8) Switch - Flash Write Error

Hi !

Our MSA Switch went balistic yesterday, and after searching through every corner of the Internet ill ask for an answer here.

The error:

flashBlockErase: timeout at 0xc0000000, csr = 0xff7f
flashWrite: failed - retrying
flashBlockErase: timeout at 0xc0000000, csr = 0xff7f
flashWrite: giving up

Keeps running in the telnet console and eventually starts over again. Access via web is not possible (it times out)

The simple question is... do I dare reboot it ?

And should i try flashing it with a never fw when it hopefully boots up again?

Regards Jan

Jan,

you wrote:

i note in the error show output, that the error is caused since April, is correct or is the Date/Time wrong set in the switch ?

I know similary error by Hardware Problem, and it's appear here that the Switch have a Corrupted Flash Bank 0.

I would proceed in this case as follow, first reboot the switch, if this reboot succesfully, than Upgrade the FOS, problable that here is the FOS Corrupted...

....w/o any warranty

the latest rel. is 3.2.1c

Re: Brocade Silkworm 3000 (MSA 2/8) Switch - Flash Write Error

The error most probably exsisted for some time, but do not interfere with production.

However we where about to make some changes and realised it was defect.

So what i read from your post, then you suspect a corrupted O/S over a hardware failure ?

Re: Brocade Silkworm 3000 (MSA 2/8) Switch - Flash Write Error

--->>> but do not interfere with production

correct, because the switch have 2 Bank's, Active/Standby if any from both is corrupted the other operate whitout interrupition.

--->>>....then you suspect a corrupted O/S..

yes, but I do not want to exclude a hardware defectively
