Brocade San Switch 6510--DWDM--DWDM--6510

Hello All,

Please advise is it necessary to purchase "BR-3900TRK-02(Trunking feature license)" and "BR-3900EXF-02(Extended Fabric feature" if the total distance between 2 x 6510 is less than 200m through 2 x DWDM.

6510----DWDM----DWDM----6510

<--------less than 200meters---->

Cheers

Ronald

Re: Brocade San Switch 6510--DWDM--DWDM--6510

Hi Ronald,

if the physical fibre length / distance is 200 meter, then you do not need the EF (Extended Fabric license).

For distances approaching / longer than 10km (assuming normal frame size), you will need EF.

For distances up to and including 5km (still assuming normal frame size), you do not need EF since the LE mode (portcfglongdistance) is supported without EF. The LS or LD mode in portcfglongdistance requires EF.

if you want to trunk 2 or more ISLs, independent of distance (or EF), you will need  the trunking licenses.

Re: Brocade San Switch 6510--DWDM--DWDM--6510

Dear Martin,

Thanks for your quick help, but the distance means the distance between 6510 & DWMW or 6510 between 6510 with DWMW?

Thanks

Ronald

Re: Brocade San Switch 6510--DWDM--DWDM--6510

Hi Roland,

the total distance =  6510 to DWDM + the length of the DWDM connection + the distance from the DWDM to 6510.

You will need EF if the total distance is 10km or larger.
