Brocade 48000 ISL to Dell Blade Center 4424 Brocade

Firmware is 5.3 (48000) to 6.2 (4424) whether that matters. In the 48000 Zone Admin Alias tab I can see the Device WWNs that are directly connected to the device and I can see the two 4424s under Ports and attached Devices.

Shouldn't I be able to see the WWNs of the Blade servers that are connected as well? I can see the aliases on the zone tab and create a zone using the alias, but that doesn't seem to be working.

On the 4424 Zone Admin under the Alias Tab I only see blade servers and I DO NOT see the 48000 under ports and attached devices nor do it see my storage or SVC nodes.

Do I need to do a Port Zone? I am only doing this with one port, so I have 5 HBA's from 5 blade server going through port 17 on the 4424 to a port on the 48000. I thought I should recognize automatically. I do not have any trunking licenses for any switch , but does that matter if I am only using one port?

I have attached a few screen shots

Thanks,

Markjc

Mark,

--->>> Firmware is 5.3 (48000) to 6.2 (4424) whether that matters.

which 5.3 ? and which 6.2 ?

beetwen 5.3.0 and 5.3.2b are 12 release available

beetwen 6.2.0 and 6.2.1a are 10 Rel. available

--->>>  I do not have any trunking licenses for any switch , but does that matter if I am only using one port?

No, Trunking is a optional license, and not required to create a Zone

Is the new Zone save Active in the switch config ?

Re: Brocade 48000 ISL to Dell Blade Center 4424 Brocade

Mark,

Starting with FOS 6.0 I believe, the Web tools will no longer show you all the switches in your fabric, just the switch you are running the tool on.  So the 4424s running FOS 6.2 will not show you the 48000.

You can see the 4424s from the 48000's web tool, as you shown in your screen shot(since it is running FOS 5.3).  Use the 48000 to create the aliases for the Port WWNs on the blade servers behind the 4424s.  Under "Ports & Attached Devices" expand your two 4424s and you should be able to find the WWNs of the blade servers attached to the internal ports of the 4424s.

*You should also be able to see the blade servers WWNs in the WWNs list on the 48000s alias tab....not sure why you cannot see them there.

You are correct on the Trunking license.  You are not trying to create a trunk, so you do not need a trunking license.

Have you considered Access Gateway on the 4424s?

Any reason why you cannot go to FOS 6 on the 48000?

In the WebTools Fabric Tree, all switch beetwen the Fabric are visible in all FabOS 6.x Release without any restriction.

Re: Brocade 48000 ISL to Dell Blade Center 4424 Brocade

Sorry, guess I needed to clarify a bit more.

After FOS 6.0  The Zone Administration Tool, Alias Tab, Member Selection List,  Ports & Attached Devices   Will only show you the switch you logged into.
