I currently have a brocade switch (4100) with firmware version 4.4.0b. I would like to install version 6.4.2.b.
From my understanding I have to install the firmware in increments.
Is the first increment version 5.0.1 or can I go straight to 5.0.5?

you can safely go to any 5.0.x also 5.0.5 is ok
then -> 5.1.x -> 5.2.x ( excepted NI release, is supported only by 5000 switch )
-> 5.3.x -> 6.0.x -> 6.1.x -> 6.2.x - 6.3.x ->
and finally 6.4.3 is latest Release

Thank you for the reply.
"x" indicates any, so either option below should be acceptable correct?
1. 5.1.0c -> 5.2.0b (first to first)
2. 5.1.1b -> 5.2.3 (last to last)
Also what ftp application do you use for firmware updates? Putty, HyperTerminal?
Thank you again,

FOS Release as you listed are ok.
As FTP, I'm use since many years Native Windows XP, Vista, 7, any Windows Server FTP and work fine.
As Terminal ( I'm not a putty friend ) I work since many years with SmarTerm from Esker.
