vrrp-e status problem

Hello all,

First time on the forums.  We have two TurboIron-x24 running vrrp-e on a number of vlans.  They are configured so that the top switch is the master for all vlans.  Here is the problem if we are on that top master switch, and run: sh ip vrrp-e brief.  Everything looks normal, except for Backup addr is Unknown for all VEs.  Now, if we ran that same command on the bottom Backup switch, it shows the correct state of Backup and correct ip addresses for Master Addr

Both switches are running 4.2.00a with the following configs on both

Top SW1:

router vrrp-extended

interface ve 4

ip address 10.10.4.2 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extened vrid 4

  backup priority 150 track-priority 20

  ip address 10.10.4.1

  enable

bottom SW2:

router vrrp-extended

interface ve 4

ip address 10.10.4.3 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extened vrid 4

  backup priority 125 track-priority 20

  ip address 10.10.4.1

  enable

Am i missing anything?  Or doing anything wrong?  I know that in the past the Master router would report the correct IP address for Backup.  But now we have this issue.

Thanks for your time and help,

Nick

Re: vrrp-e status problem

Hi Nick, this one is quite easy. Just add 'advertise backup' to the vrrp-e config like this:

Top SW1:

router vrrp-extended

interface ve 4

ip address 10.10.4.2 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extened vrid 4

  backup priority 150 track-priority 20

  advertise backup

  ip address 10.10.4.1

  enable

bottom SW2:

router vrrp-extended

interface ve 4

ip address 10.10.4.3 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extened vrid 4

  backup priority 125 track-priority 20

  advertise backup

  ip address 10.10.4.1

  enable

BTW, you defined a track-priority, but did not define anything to track.... use 'track-port' for example

Re: vrrp-e status problem

I got the  advertise backup before your reply.  But i can, soooo remember seeing the backup ip's with out needing this command, when we first configured these switches.  But I could be completely wrong.

But thanks for the track-priority.  I see that now.  Should I track one of the physical interfaces?

Thanks for your time and help,

Re: vrrp-e status problem

Hi Nick, you can track more than one thing if you want to...

router vrrp-extended

interface ve 4

ip address 10.10.4.2 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extened vrid 4

  backup priority 150 track-priority 20

  advertise backup

  ip address 10.10.4.1

  track-port e1

  track-port e2

  enable

you even have the possibility to track trunk ports...
