fws648g can ping VE ip addresses but not VLAN members

My VANS are working. I have VE ip addresses for each and any member of another VLAN with a VE can ping the VE IP address of any other VLAN. I cannot ping the devices in the other VLANS from within another VLAN. I am sure I am missing something simple, but I am a storage guy.  Thanks for any advice!

Re: fws648g can ping VE ip addresses but not VLAN members

Are you sure you have correct routes configured on all the hosts?

i.e.

1. hosts on VLAN 1 must have route to VLAN 2 via gateway configured on VLAN 1

2. hosts on VLAN 2 must have route to VLAN 1 via gateway configured on VLAN 2

Sorry if you already have this sorted but sometimes this can easily be overlooked

Thanks

Mick

Re: fws648g can ping VE ip addresses but not VLAN members

Thanks Mick for your advice. I found one of the VE IP addresses was on 192.168.2.210, not on 192.168.2.1, when changed now works. Apparently the VE must be on .1 . Also the workstations on one subnet had firewalls blocking incoming. Next to connect to all to the internet VLAN.

Re: fws648g can ping VE ip addresses but not VLAN members

Hi,

Glad to hear that you got your problem solved

The Ve can be any address you choose, but my guess in your case is that this is the gateway that was configured on the host / servers connected to the VLAN which is why it did not work until you changed the address

Regards

Mick
