The TV market is changing. Over-The-Top (OTT) video has been taking off and with the proliferation of mobile devices, the pay-TV model is being threatened. In fact, some reports show that OTT video use is surpassing live viewing.
2012 may be an eventful year for OTT video (a good overview here), and there is plenty of room for growth and expansion in the future. While the massive increase in devices and bandwidth use are currently creating challenges for CDNs, the projected growth for OTT video means that the ones to solve those issues can find themselves with a lot of business. Video is a big source of revenue, so being able to supply better offerings is a huge draw for many service providers.
There are still potential issues to work out with OTT video services, such as security and the obvious , but the potential market is huge. Demand for OTT video is already driving increases in other business areas, and it's not going away any time soon.
That's all for this week. If you have a topic you would like for me to cover, let me know!
