Remove port from existing trunk/link-aggregate

Hi all,

I come from the Cisco world and have recently purchased a pair of TurboIron24s that I'm going to use with what Cisco refers to as Port-Channels and Brocade refers to as either static (trunk) and dynamic (link-agg) as far as I've understood.

The problem I've ran into is that I can't remove or add a port in static mode unless I remove the whole trunk. And in dynamic mode I'm not able to remove ports (I can add them though) that has once been part of a link-aggregate group unless I remove the whole link-aggregate group. See output below:

Static/trunk:

(config)#trunk e 1 to 3

Trunk will be created in next trunk deploy.

(config)#trunk deploy

(config)#no trunk e 2

Error - Trunk not found

(config)#no trunk e 2 to 2

Error - Trunk not found

(config)#no trunk e 2 to 3

Error - Trunk not found

(config-trunk-1-3)#config-trunk-ind

(config)#no trunk e 2 to 2

Error - Trunk not found

(config)#no trunk e 2 to 3

Error - Trunk not found

Dynamic/link-aggregate:

interface ethernet 1

no spanning-tree

link-aggregate configure key 10000

link-aggregate active

interface ethernet 2

no spanning-tree

link-aggregate configure key 10000

link-aggregate active

If I then want to remove the link-agg config from ethernet 2 I try to enter conf t -> int e2 without any success.

(config)#int e 2

Error - cannot configure secondary ports of a trunk

Any ideas on how to remove a port on an existing bundle/lagg? Note that I don't want to _disable_ the port, I want to fully remove it from the link-aggregate and use it for other purposes.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Re: Remove port from existing trunk/link-aggregate

Hi,

What version of image do you have on your TIs?

for version 7.3 you can use below from the guide:

Modifying Trunk Group Membership

You can change port membership by removing individual ports from the trunk group. To remove a

port from a trunk group, use one of the following methods.

To remove ports 3 and 4 from the trunk group, enter the following command:

TurboIron(config)# no trunk ethernet 3 to 4

Syntax: no trunk ethernet | pos <portnum>

The <portnum> parameter indicates the port you are removing.

NOTE

Make sure you enter the lower port in the range before the “to” and the higher port in the range after

the “to”.

As a shortcut, you also can enter just the lower port in the range. The software automatically

removes all higher ports in addition to the specified port. For example, to remove ports 3 and 4,

you can enter the following command:

TurboIron(config)# no trunk ethernet 3

Therefore, for trunk group 1 – 4, the following commands are not valid:

TurboIron(config)# no trunk ethernet 2

These commands are invalid because the trunk group cannot contain only a single port. These

commands, if the software allowed them, would result in a trunk group consisting only of port 1.

On most devices, trunk groups can contain two ports or four ports but cannot contain only three

ports. Therefore, the following command also is invalid for trunk group 1 – 4:

TurboIron(config)# no trunk ethernet 4

This command is invalid because it would result in a trunk group containing three ports,1 – 3.

hope this helps,

Serhat
