[MLX] - VLL PEER AUTOMATIC BACKUP

Hello everyone,

I use MPLS via MLX and I have a question.

Is it possible to make sure that a VLL has two "peers"?
Like that if for example one of my MLX falls I can return my VLL automatically on another MLX that would still work to him.

Thanking you in advance,
Cordially.

Re: [MLX] - VLL PEER AUTOMATIC BACKUP

Hi Mathieu,

Since VLL is a point-to-point service, there can only be one peer at the other end of the tunnel. Having said that, I don't think you would be able to achieve redundancy having two peers anyway.

You need to look at the end point and how it is connected to the PE (the MLX in this case). I fail to see how one endpoint connects to two different MLX's in this scenario.

Hope this helps addressing your concern.

Regards,

Os

Re: [MLX] - VLL PEER AUTOMATIC BACKUP

Hello,

I understand but why I can set two "vll-peer" configuration if it does not allow me to have a backup link if the first "vll-peer" falls out?

Re: [MLX] - VLL PEER AUTOMATIC BACKUP

I had the same question in april on f-nsp mailing list:

https://www.mail-archive.com/foundry-nsp@puck.nether.net/msg05021.html

I understand that this is a P2P service, so only one pair of endpoints can be used at the time, but then, as Mathieu asked, where is the point of being able to setup two peers ?

Re: [MLX] - VLL PEER AUTOMATIC BACKUP

Hi Mathieu,

The dual peer is used for MCT-VLL configuration. Which in a way is a redundancy should you have 2 MCT Clusters already in place.

Below is a smaple configuration of MCT-VLL

MCT VLL sample configuration
Brocade# show running configuration
router mpls
  l2vpn-revertible-timer 300
  lsp MCT_PEER_LSP
    to 2.2.2.2
    enable
  vll MCT_VLL1 101
     vll-peer 3.3.3.3 [4.4.4.4]
     [vll-pw-redundancy-active]
     vlan 101
       tagged eth 1/1
cluster mct_l2vpn 1
  rbridge-id 1
  l2vpn-peer 2.2.2.2 rbridge-id 2
 deploy
 client MCT_CLIENT1
   rbridge-id 101
   client-interface e 1/1
      [vll-pw-redundancy-active]
   deploy

Please refer to Switching Guide for more info.

Hope this helps addressing your concern.
