I am having trouble with a NetIron CES 2048X (IBM B50C - 4002-C5A) switch that at the first place was not able to boot to an image. Either telnet or console connection to it gives me a "Monitor" shell.
The show version commands gives me only information about the boot and monitor images:
Boot 03.09.00T185 Jul 23 2009 13:25:06 PDT ceb03900
Monitor 03.09.00T185 Jul 23 2009 13:25:06 PDT ceb03900 (boot)
800 MHz Power PC processor MPC8544 (version 8021/0022) 400.0020 MHz bus
Reboot does not either help, since there is no OS image on flash:
NetIron CE 2000 Boot Code Version 3.9.0
Enter 'a' to stop at memory test
Enter 'b' to stop at boot monitor
BOOT INFO: load monitor from boot flash, cksum = f08f
BOOT INFO: verify flash files
BOOT INFO: load image from primary copy
File not found, 'primary'
BOOT INFO: load image from secondary copy
File not found, 'secondary'
When trying to download an image via TFTP to the switch, I get following strange error:
Monitor>copy tftp flash 172.30.2.1 ce03900.bin primary
..code_flash_block_erase: timeout, f4000000.
code_flash_block_write2: timeout, f4000040:f4000030
Flash write failed
I have been unable to locate a similar incident on the communities. I am wondering whether this is a flash memory fault or whether any configuration or checksum problem causes that.
Note that updating the boot image on the switch works fine. Also, the TFTP server has been tested without problems with upgrading other switches.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, suggest to try from the boot monitor
boot system flash sec
This will attemp to use the secondary flash for booting.
if this works then after complete boot copy the sec to the primary. (from memory copy flash flash pri)

as mentioned, the flash of the CES is totally empty.
Here is the output when trying to boot from sec (booting from prim gives same result):
Monitor>boot system flash secondary
`File not found, 'secondary'
I then try to copy the firmware from a TFTP server to the CES, but get the error notice posted in my previous entry.
The error message is not very informative and I have not been able to find a post that faced the same error, so no idea
where to start.
Thanks a lot

No, I haven't been able to figure out a solution.
No hints from the forum, plus I can't associate the error message with anything that is in the Configuration Guide or in the forum.
