Discuss the impact of Bring your Own Device (BYOD) on the network infrastructure

Today, many employees are bringing their personal devices to work including their smart phones, tablets and personal laptops and are expecting to have access to the campus network and corporate applications from these devices.

This can be an opportunity to enhance employee productivity but can also add additional load to the network infrastructure.  For example, with employees accessing the network through 3 devices on average it certainly adds to the total number of devices (and MAC addresses) that the network needs to be able to support.

  • How do you see BYOD (bring your own device) affecting your network?
  • How does this affect your network planning and requirements for the future?
