Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

I trying to setup mstp between a netiron mlx and a cisco 3560, eg see below Sw01 being mlx and sw02 cisco with dual uplinks to each other.

Seems mst is not talking to each other, as i set the root brige on the mlx for instance 1 and 2 but the cisco still takes over as root.

Re: Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

Hi,

Suggest to first check and confirm that the MST digest is the same on both switches.

For the MLX

MLX4#dm mstp global

MSTP GLOBAL STRUCTURES INFO

mstConfigId:

        format_selector 0 revision 1 name test

        config_digest 0x9dfa90e351b5a4abd57a42a66773b216

Not sure how to show it on the Cisco - if this digest does not match then you do not have a consistent MST config.

I have had MST workng with Cisco and MLX before.

Thanks

Michael.

They seem correct

Re: Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

ok yes the digest matches - that is good.

ok this line looks a bit weird

max_instance 16, free_instances 13, active 0

Also can you pleae check the version on the Cisco for MST and the MLX is set to force V3 only

disable_auto_edge_port 1, forceVersion 3

Are any of the VLAN's up on the MLX?  I would assume you are tagging the VLAN's accross the two links connecting the MLX to the Cisco and there are showing as up?

Thanks

Michael.

Re: Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

HI,

I have vlans 100-102 setup on both switches

vlan 100 by port
tagged ethe 1/1/1 to 1/1/2
no spanning-tree
!
vlan 101 by port
tagged ethe 1/1/1 to 1/1/2
no spanning-tree
!
vlan 102 by port
tagged ethe 1/1/1 to 1/1/2
no spanning-tree
!

The cisco switch is in switchport mode trunk with no pruning and sh interface trunk shows ports up and tagging vlans.

There doesnt seem to be a version with cisco mstp.

Thanks again

Re: Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

hmmm

Digest match - tick

parm (hello etc) match - tick

MLX set to lower prioty, so should be ROOT - tick

MSTP Instance 2 - VLANs:
21 to 299
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridge Max RegionalRoot IntPath Designated Root Root
Identifier Hop Bridge Cost Bridge Port Hop
hex cnt hex hex cnt
2002748ef82d2b00 20 8002748ef82d2b00 0 8002748ef82d2b00 Root 20

This does not show any ports at all, and I think this is the issue.

Can you check to see if you are root goard or BPDU guard on the boxes enable anywhere?

Re: Brocade to Cisco MSTP Issue

Hi Michael,

I missed the command "mstp start" on the Brocade, all seems to be ok for instance 1, instance 2 still not working but i will play a bit more.

Thanks for your help again.
