Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

[ Edited ]

Hi,

We operate two MLX routers both running 5.6.0.g and seemingly overnight one of the two lost the capability to do (or delete) things with ipv6, for example to add or delete static ipv6 routes. I thing the following info says enough:

router#1(config)#ipv6 ?
  anycast-no-response         Disables processing of IPV6 packets with
                              destination address as anycast address
  dhcp-relay                  Configure DHCPv6 Relay system parameters
  max-host-drop-cam           maximum number of IPv6 host drop cam
  max-import-vrfs             configure maximum number of import commands in a
                              vrf
  multicast-routing           Enable specific options for ipv6 Multicast
                              routing and MLD
  nd                          Set parameters for Neighbor Discovery
  radius                      Configure RADIUS authentication
  rate-limit                  Rate Limit protocol packets sent to CPU
  receive                     Bind IPv6 receive access list globally

Router two, who isn't displaying the same error:

telnet@son-cr2-dc1(config)#ipv6 ?
  access-class                Filter incoming/outgoing connections
  access-list                 Build ipv6 access lists
  anycast-no-response         Disables processing of IPV6 packets with
                              destination address as anycast address
  debug                       Enable IPv6 debug
  dhcp-relay                  Configure DHCPv6 Relay system parameters
  dns                         Set DNS properties
  enable-acl-cam-sharing      Enable IPv6 ACL CAM sharing
  forward-source-route        Forward Source Routed IPv6 Packets
  global-mtu                  Change IPv6 MTU globally
  hop-limit                   Set IPv6 hop-limit
  icmp                        Set IPv6 icmp parameters
  import                      import from
  load-sharing                Enable IPV6 load sharing
  max-host-drop-cam           maximum number of IPv6 host drop cam
  max-import-vrfs             configure maximum number of import commands in a
                              vrf
  max-mroute                  Configure maximum multicast route (mroute)
  mld                         Set IPv6 MLD parameters
  mroute                      Configure static IPv6 multicast route
  multicast                   Set IPv6 multicast traffic reduction
  multicast-max-all-vrf-cam   Configure multicast all-vrf cam entries
  multicast-routing           Enable specific options for ipv6 Multicast
                              routing and MLD
  nd                          Set parameters for Neighbor Discovery
  neighbor                    Config static neighbor entries
  prefix-list                 Build a IPv6 prefix list
  radius                      Configure RADIUS authentication
  rate-limit                  Rate Limit protocol packets sent to CPU

rebind-acl                  rebind IPV6 access list
  rebind-all-acl              rebind IPV6 access list
  receive                     Bind IPv6 receive access list globally
  reverse-path-check          Check for reverse path for the source IPv6
                              address before forwarding
  route                       Define static route
  router                      Enable an IPV6 routing process
  session-logging-age         minutes logging information cache
  source-route                Process Source Routed IPv6 Packets
  unicast-routing             Enable IPv6 unicast routing
  urpf-exclude-default        Discard packets with source IPv6 matching default
                              route

               rebind IPV6 access list
  rebind-all-acl              rebind IPV6 access list
  receive                     Bind IPv6 receive access list globally
  reverse-path-check          Check for reverse path for the source IPv6
                              address before forwarding
  route                       Define static route
  router                      Enable an IPV6 routing process
  session-logging-age         minutes logging information cache
  source-route                Process Source Routed IPv6 Packets
  unicast-routing             Enable IPv6 unicast routing
  urpf-exclude-default        Discard packets with source IPv6 matching default
                              route

When I try to remove a IPv6 static route, the MLX says that the  command is invalid.

This is a first for me, does anyone have a clue what may cause this? I've looked at the logs and config changes and I can't find anything what may explain this.

Thanks!

With regards,

Re: Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

Justin,

I'm no most experienced with this plattforms.

how you try to remove the Static Route ?

please have a look in this Manuals

NOTE

Using the no command will only remove the name if configured. Run the no command again without the name parameter to remove the actual Static Route.

Re: Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

Hi Antonio,

Thanks for your reply! I'm aware that including a name in the deletion of a static route results in only deleting the name, but in my case the following error is returned by the MLX:

telnet@son-cr1-dc1(config)#no ipv6 route 2001:4cb8:74::/48 2001:4cb8:74:ffff::2
Invalid input -> route 2001:4cb8:74::/48 2001:4cb8:74:ffff::2 name VLAN3470
Type ? for a list
telnet@son-cr1-dc1(config)#show run | i 3470

ipv6 route 2001:4cb8:74::/48 2001:4cb8:74:ffff::2 name VLAN3470

 Thanks!

Justin.

Re: Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

if I understand correct from the manuals, you have to run the command in example like:

whatever is missing in you command, slot number , port number ???

device(config)# no ip route 10.128.2.71 255.255.255.0 ve 3

Yes, but "no ipv6 route" isn't possible as you can see in my previous post. Removing IPv4 static routes is still possible.

When we (till a few days ago) had to remove a IPv6 static route, we didn't have to include the VE or interface, nor we ever did to do that. On the other MLX that still isn't the case:

router #2(config)#no ipv6 route 2001:4cb8:44::/48 2001:4cb8:44:ffff::2 ?
  DECIMAL    <1-16> Optional cost metric of this route, default: 1
  bfd        Use BFD to detect next hop failure
  distance   Specify the optional distance of this route
  name       Optional static route name
  tag        Optional tag value of this route, default: 0
  <cr>
telnet@son-cr2-dc1(config)#no ipv6 route 2001:4cb8:44::/48 2001:4cb8:44:ffff::2

Re: Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

not sure why in the one MLX work and here is not.

I would suggest to wait if another person can guide you to righet directions for a solution, or open a TAC with the support.

Re: Brocade MLX using 5.6.0g lost ipv6 static route options

After a TAC case, this turned out to be the problem and solution:

DEFECT000467954

We recreated this issue in our lab. This defect has not been fixed yet, but what happens is if you go into VRF configuration mode and then close out of the telnet or ssh session without exiting the VRF configuration mode, IPV6 commands will go missing from the global configuration mode.
