BigIron RX - SFM3 card from a different IronWareOS

Hi,

I'm reaching out for the BigIron RX guru out there.
After much reading, I can't really decide if it is possible to install a Switch Fabric Module (SFM3) card in a chassis that has a different IronWare OS from the original chassis of said card.

 Here is the output from the origine chassis concerning my card :

RX8#show version
==========================================================================
HW: BigIron RX Router
BigIron RX-8 CHASSIS (Serial #:, Part #: )
RX-BI-SFM3 Switch Fabric Module 1 (Serial #: , Part #Smiley Happy
FE 1: Type fe200, Version 2
FE 2: Type fe200, Version 2
FE 3: Type fe200, Version 2

And the output for the active management module of the same chassis :

==========================================================================
SL M1: RX-BI-MR Management Module Active (Serial #:, Part #: ):
Boot : Version 2.7.2fT145 Copyright (c) 1996-2007 Foundry Networks, Inc.

(432020 bytes) from boot flash

Compiled on Mar 22 2010 at 23:24:44 labeled as rmb02702f
(432020 bytes) from code flash
IronWare : Version 2.7.2fT143 Copyright (c) 1996-2007 Foundry Networks, Inc.
Compiled on Mar 22 2010 at 23:38:16 labeled as rmpr02702f
(4477833 bytes) from Primary
Board ID : 00 MBRIDGE Revision : 21
916 MHz Power PC processor (version 8003/0101) 166 MHz bus
512 KB Boot Flash (AM29LV040B), 32 MB Code Flash (MT28F128J3)
512 MB DRAM

No problem so far, the SFM3 card works well on this chassis.

Now, what I want to do, is take this card, and put it in another chassis who appeared to have a different IronWare version for his manamgement card.

Here are the output for this new chassis :
==========================================================================
SL M1: RX-BI-MR Management Module Active (Serial #:, Part #Smiley Happy:
Boot : Version 2.7.2fT145 Copyright (c) 1996-2007 Foundry Networks, Inc.

Compiled on Mar 22 2010 at 23:24:44 labeled as rmb02702f
(432020 bytes) from code flash
IronWare : Version 2.6.0cT143 Copyright (c) 1996-2007 Foundry Networks, Inc.
Compiled on Jan 22 2009 at 16:04:36 labeled as rmpr02600c
(4308731 bytes) from Secondary
Board ID : 00 MBRIDGE Revision : 21
916 MHz Power PC processor (version 8003/0101) 166 MHz bus
512 KB Boot Flash (AM29LV040B), 32 MB Code Flash (MT28F128J3)
512 MB DRAM

Even tho the MBRIDGE revision is the same, the IronWare image differ as you can see. But I wonder if it's really a big deal.

Can my SFM3 card be inserted into this new chassis and work ?
Or is there a FPGA or SBRIDGE image that need to be downgraded on my card before it can work ?

Moreover the new chassis has SM3 cards already presents with the same version number (see output below) :
==========================================================================
HW: BigIron RX Router
BI-RX-16-S Backplane (Serial #: , Part #: )
RX-BI-SFM3 Switch Fabric Module 1 (Serial #: , Part #: )
FE 1: Type fe200, Version 2
FE 2: Type fe200, Version 2

FE 3: Type fe200, Version 2

Unfortunalty there is no way I can test this atm.

I know it's a long shot, but thank you for your time, it really is important for me.

(PS : Serial and Part numbers intentionally left blank)

Re: BigIron RX - SFM3 card from a different IronWareOS

Okay, So I resolved this issue.

Yes you can , as long as the SFM3 has the same version and MBRIDGE version (as  in my post above).

So a SFM3 card with a different IronWareOS from the chassis will work.

However this is not recomanded.
