0.0.0.0 as Gateway in routing table entry

---sho ip route---

Total number of IP routes: 2450, avail: 77550 (out of max 80000)

B:BGP D:Connected  R:RIP  SSmiley Frustratedtatic  OSmiley SurprisedSPF *:Candidate default

Destination     NetMask         Gateway         Port       Cost   Type

        0.0.0.0         0.0.0.0            172.20.101.197  v51        0      O

      130.126.157.0   255.255.255.128 0.0.0.0         v6         1      D

What could 0.0.0.0 as Gateway in second routing entry indicate. what will be the nexthop in that case ? If its a connected route then why have a 0.0.0.0 in Gateway column.

thanks.

Re: 0.0.0.0 as Gateway in routing table entry

jrshah2,

This is direct route to reach hosts that is directly connected so that there is no need for gateway, so it is displayed

as 0.0.0.0.
