SFP fiber & copper

Hi all,

does anyone knows if is there any problem for mixing differents SFP, fiber and copper, on same ASIC? Switch is VDX6720 and SFPs are:

10G-SFPP-SR (10GBASE-SR)
XBR-000190 (1 GbE copper)

Thank you!

Re: SFP fiber & copper

I don't know, but I suspect it'll work as the VDX6720 supports both.

Re: SFP fiber & copper

I would have to say this needs to be tested.  The datasheet refers only to;

1 Gbps SFP options: TX

However the code you provided is NOT in the price list for VDX and E1MG-TX is.

Yes you can mix both 1G and 10G supported optics on the same switch/ASIC.

Thanks

Michael.

Re: SFP fiber & copper

You can mix 1G with 10G at same switch/port-group/ASIC. But consider that VDX switches have small buffers per port (~90KB) and changing speed from 10G to 1G needs buffering to prevent microburst.
