Reserved VLANs on VDX-6730 (NOS 4)

Hi

We just failed to create VLAN 4001 on our VDX-6730. After some searching I found the reserved-vlan documentation.

It states: "For a Brocade VDX 6720 switch, the default reserved space is 128 VLANS, and is equal to sum of the number of maximum allowed port channels and the number of interfaces on a Brocade VDX 6720‑60 switch. Presently, VLANs from 3960 through 4090 are reserved." - in other words VLANs 3963 - 4090 can't be used.

So what I'd like to know is:

1. Why are this VLANs reserved?

2. a) What is the consequence of using reserved‑vlan 4090 4090?

2. b) What is the consequence of using reserved‑vlan 3872 3999?

Thank you

Philippe

Re: Reserved VLANs on VDX-6730 (NOS 4)

Philippe -

We reserve a set of vlans on the VDX products  for internal usage within the fabric. The consequence of this reservation is the user would not be able to configure the box.

VLAN IDs 3964 through 4090 are internally reserved VLAN IDs . However starting from 3.0.0 NOS provides a command that can modify this range . VLANs above 4090 are not configurable .

The cli command is #reserved-vlan (Defines the range of VLANs that cannot be created using the interface vlan command )

start-VLAN-ID Valid values range from1 through 4090

end-VLAN-ID Valid values range from 1 through 4090

Please refer to the NOS command reference guide for more details :

Re: Reserved VLANs on VDX-6730 (NOS 4)

Dear Annie

Thank you for your answer.

You state:

VLAN IDs 3964 through 4090 are internally reserved VLAN IDs .

I already acknowledged this in my first post, but does this range still need to be 128 VLANs on a VDX 6730?

If not - what happens if I reserve (as an example) only 16 VLANs?

If so - why do you only need 4 VLANs on the VDX 8770 but 128 VLANs on the VDX 6730?

Also I'd like to mention that there is no word on the VDX 6730 in this chapter of the NOS documentation.

Thank you

Best regards
