Re: Oracle VM 3 driver for Brocade FC 1860 Adapter

Fernando,

there is no Package available for Oracle VM, and I'm not a Expert with this OS.

However AFAIK, Oracle VM is based on Oracle Linux, which is based on RedHat.

At this point i would try to load Linux Driver, which are for Download available.

Re: Oracle VM 3 driver for Brocade FC 1860 Adapter

Hello Fernando and Antonio.  The 1860 adapter is listed as supported with Oracle VM 3.1.1 or higher for FC/FCoE/Ethernet.  You may find this information on the Brocade Server Adapter Interop Matrix:

http://www.brocade.com/downloads/documents/matrices/brocade-adapters-interoperability-matrix.pdf

Now, regarding specific driver downloads for Oracle VM, that I actually have to look into.  I'll get back to you both shortly.

Hi Mike,

I know the 1860 is listed in the Matrix, but as fair as i know, no Oracle VM Driver Package is available for Download, since this is native Supported

I confirmed with the product manager that we do have native driver support for Oracle VM.

Re: Oracle VM 3 driver for Brocade FC 1860 Adapter

Hi Mike,

If I execute lspci on my Oracle VM Server, I can see only the Ethernet Controller (bna module)

# lspci   | grep -i broc

05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. Device 0022 (rev 01)

41:00.0 Ethernet controller: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. Device 0022 (rev 01)

If I execute the same command on another server (same hardware type), but in a Oracle Linux 6.4 with Brocade Driver Installed, I can see both modules.

# lspci | grep -i broc

05:00.0 Fibre Channel: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. 1867/1860: 16Gbps/10Gbps Fabric Adapter (rev 01)

05:00.1 Ethernet controller: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. 1867/1860: 16Gbps/10Gbps Fabric Adapter (rev 01)

41:00.0 Fibre Channel: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. 1867/1860: 16Gbps/10Gbps Fabric Adapter (rev 01)

41:00.1 Ethernet controller: Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. 1867/1860: 16Gbps/10Gbps Fabric Adapter (rev 01)

Re: Oracle VM 3 driver for Brocade FC 1860 Adapter

Hi Fernando.

The execution of the lspci command on the Oracle VM machine appears to bring up extremely basic information (company name and device xxxx) which, the information I relayed from the PM team, states we do not offer 'native driver support for' vs. Linux 6.4 which brings up very specific information for (which we do have driver support for).

So I'm not totally sure what you are trying to point out to me (though I must admit, its been a long day so the obvious could easily be eluding me!).

So if you could lead the horse (me) to water on this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks Fernando!

Re: Oracle VM 3 driver for Brocade FC 1860 Adapter

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the delay...
I want to use the CNA mode (both Ethernet and FC capabilities) of these adapters.
I had the same issue when I installed Oracle Linux 6.4, but after installing Brocade driver, I changed the setting to CNA mode with BCU utility and the FC module was loaded automatically after a reboot.

This is my configuration after installing brocade driver on Oracle Linux 6.4.

How can I get the same result with Oracle VM Server without BCU utility ?

1) #bcu adapter --list
------------------------------------------------------------------------
AD#  NP  HW-path        Type   Model-Info       Serial-num   Name

2   1   0000:41        AnyIO  Brocade-1860-1p  BXA2528J08A  --
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) #bcu adapter --mode 1 CNA

3) #reboot

4) #bcu adapter --query 1
Adapter Information:

        OEM info:          N/A

        PCI function1:
                ssid:      0x0023

Thanks Mike!

Unfortunately, I cannot provide support/guidance on unsupported scenarios such as this.
