Re: For the vlan interface line status is showing up & protocol status is showing down..please suggest what is missing ?

I saw the same issue with our new deployment when setting up a VLAN.

! Basic VLAN creation:

!====================================

config t

interface vlan 10

desc LAN_Network

no shut

end

!====================================

! Show VLAN status:

!====================================

show vlan br

!====================================

Total Number of VLANs configured : 3

VLAN       Name            State   Ports

(F)-FCoE                          (u)-Untagged, (t)-Tagged

                                  (c)-Converged

======== ================ ======= ================================================

1        default         ACTIVE

10       VLAN0010        ACTIVE

1002(F)  VLAN1002        ACTIVE

With this command you can see that the new vlan is active on the switch.

! Show IP Interface status:

!====================================

show ip int br

!====================================

show ip int br

Interface                      IP-Address      Status                    Protocol

==========================     ==========      ====================      ========

Vlan 4093                       unassigned        up                        down

Vlan 4095                       unassigned        administratively down     down

Using the last command above, the new VLAN interface was showing as administratively down.

Now I setup the Layer3 Interface on VLAN #10:

! New Layer3 Interface

!====================================

config t

rbridge-id 1

interface ve 10

ip address 192.168.0.1/24

no shut

end

Ve 10                           192.168.0.1       up                        down

VDX6720#

You now see that the Layer 3 interface for vlan 10 went to an UP/down state.  I have no ports setup in this vlan yet.

Hope this helps.

Re: For the vlan interface line status is showing up & protocol status is showing down..please suggest what is missing ?

Thanks Dave. But in my another VDX 6720 switch the vlan status is showing up-up with the same configuration. But with new vdx switch it is showing down. When I setup some port in the particular vlan then only the status is showing up-up for that vlan.

Re: For the vlan interface line status is showing up & protocol status is showing down..please suggest what is missing ?

I have the same problem with several new VDX 6720's.  I can't seem to get the VLAN up/up.  I can issue "no shutdown" on the interface.  No errors are displayed, but the interface stays down.  We're dead in the water now.

Re: For the vlan interface line status is showing up & protocol status is showing down..please suggest what is missing ?

Are you talking about the Layer3 interface such as this?  You won't see this interface go up/up until you assign the IP address via the "Rbridge-ID #" and then "interface ve #" commands.

================================================================================

VDX6720# show ip int br

Interface                      IP-Address      Status                    Protocol

==========================     ==========      ====================      ========

TenGigabitEthernet 1/0/1        unassigned        up                        down

TenGigabitEthernet 1/0/2        unassigned        up                        down

...

Vlan 1                          unassigned        administratively down     down

Vlan 10                         unassigned        up                        down

Vlan 4093                       unassigned        up                        down

Vlan 4095                       unassigned        administratively down     down

Ve 10                           192.168.0.1       up                        down

VDX6720#

================================================================================

If you are working with the layer2 VLAN, then you can see the status with the "show vlan br" command.  This should indicate the VLAN is up if you have an Untagged port or Trunked port assigned to the vlan.

Re: For the vlan interface line status is showing up & protocol status is showing down..please suggest what is missing ?

Thanks, that cleared things up.  I'm looking at layer 2 only, so I need to disregard the "administratively down/down" line in "sh ip int br".  When I "show vlan xx", I see the vlan is active.  Thanks again.
