Disable switch on link failure

Hello,

is it possible to configure a switch, so that in case of a link failure the hole switch gets disabled?

Example: Port 1 gets offline => switch disabled

Regards,

Steffen

Re: Disable switch on link failure

Hi,

the construct is a little bit strange.

Simple version of the connection is:

Storage controller – Blade Switch – Core Switch

Imagine, a link failure between the blade switch and the core switch occurs. In that case the storage controller is not able to recognize this failure. So my wish is, if a link failure occurs the switch goes offline, the storage also recognizes a link failure and switches the datatraffic to another port, which is connected to another switch.

Re: Disable switch on link failure

Use Multipath software to overcome that. Don't mess about with disabling switches.

EMC for instance has PowerPath for its boxes.

Linux systems can use multipathd/ dev-mapper/ PVlinks (LVM)

Micrsoft systems can utilize the MPIO framework, which is used extensivly by HP (array's).
