Convergence Education: Brocade is First-to-Market

Brocade in early March will debut the industry’s first technical education courseware for Ethernet fabrics — the most important evolution in Ethernet networking in the last quarter-century.

The new CEF 200 course supports Brocade One™, the unifying network architecture and strategy that simplifies complexities of virtualized applications. By removing network layers, simplifying management and protecting existing technology investments, Brocade One helps customers migrate to an environment where information and services are available anywhere in the Ethernet fabric.

CEF 200 explores and leverages the Brocade VDX 6720, the industry’s first true Ethernet fabric data center switches that are purpose-built for highly virtualized data centers. The January issue of CTO Edge named the VDX 6720 the “Most Important Enterprise IT Product for 2010.”

Convergence-enabling hardware such as Brocade VDX switches creates a single network path. The result is far greater network utilization, higher bandwidth, improved performance, exponentially better fault recovery, and more speed. In short, Ethernet fabric architecture combines the advantages of a Fibre Channel network and the flexibility of the standard Ethernet network.

The CEF 200 course, available beginning March 8, provides IT professionals with detailed foundational information to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Brocade Ethernet Fabrics and VDX switches. This knowledge is essential for network architects, designers and administrators, system administrators and engineers, professional service, technical sales engineers and support personnel in the user, channel, OEM and Brocade communities.

CEF 200 prepares candidates for a new exam and credential, the Brocade Certified Ethernet Fabric Engineer (BCEFE).

Upon completion of CEF 200, students should be able to:

  • Identify Brocade VCS and Ethernet Fabric terminology and protocols.
  • Describe, install, configure and perform basic troubleshooting steps on Brocade VDX Data Center Switches (VDX 6720-24 and VDX 6720-60) in VCS and non-VCS modes.
  • Use Brocade Network Operating System to configure and perform basic monitoring steps on Brocade VDX switches.
  • Discuss Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) support and configuration parameters.
  • Discuss Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCI) support and configuration parameters.
  • Describe Automatic Migration of Port Profiles (AMPP) behavior, support, limitations, and configuration information.

CEF 200 will be available in traditional classroom, on-line with a live instructor (virtual classroom), or as self-paced, web-based training. Different options also include hands-on or simulated lab exercises. All delivery options include additional self-paced, web-based training. Here are the course options:

  • CEF 200-BIS: Three days of instructor-led classroom training with simulated lab exercises, plus 2 hours of supplemental web-based training.
  • CEF 200-BLS: Three days of instructor-led classroom training with hands-on lab exercises, plus 2 hours of supplemental web-based training.
  • CEF 00-BCS: Three days of virtual classroom training with simulated lab exercises, plus 2 hours of supplemental web-based training.
  • CEF 200-BVS: Three days of virtual classroom training with hands-on lab exercises, plus 2 hours of supplemental web-based training.
  • CEF 200-WBT: 22 hours of web-based training and simulated lab exercises.
