Migration from a NAS 2424 to an SI 1016-2 - how to convert the config?

I am trying to move to a ServerIron based configuration coming from a NAS 2424 - the SLB part of the old config is looking like the following:

/c/slb
on
/c/slb/adv
direct ena
/c/slb/real 11
ena
ipver v4
rip a.b.c.101
name "proxy1"
/c/slb/real 12
ena
ipver v4
rip a.b.c.102
name "proxy2"
/c/slb/real 13
ena
ipver v4
rip a.b.c.103
name "proxy3"
/c/slb/real 14
ena
ipver v4
rip a.b.c.104
name "proxy4"
/c/slb/group 1
ipver v4
metric roundrobin
add 11
add 12
add 13
add 14
/c/slb/group 2
ipver v4
metric roundrobin
add 11
add 12
add 13
add 14
/c/slb/port 1
client ena
server ena
/c/slb/port 10
client ena
server ena
/c/slb/virt 1
ena
ipver v4
vip x.y.z.100
/c/slb/virt 1/service http
group 1
/c/slb/virt 2
ena
ipver v4
vip x.y.z.101
/c/slb/virt 2/service 3128
group 2

It is simple proxy server LB'ing - thanks for your help.

Re: Migration from a NAS 2424 to an SI 1016-2 - how to convert the config?

This is actually pretty simple - some concepts are slightly different but it is nevertheless very simple to convert the config. There is nothing like a real server pool / group at the ServerIron - it is possible to bind real server directly to virtual servers. Direct access mode is given by default talking about the ServerIron (you can not turn it off).

You need to configure the port profiles and the real servers with their ports you want to use first of all:

server port 80

  tcp

  tcp keepalive 5 2

server port 3128

  tcp

  tcp keepalive 5.2

server real proxy1 a.b.c.101

  port http l4-check-only

  port 3128

server real proxy2 a.b.c.102

  port http l4-check-only

  port 3128

server real proxy3 a.b.c.103

  port http l4-check-only

  port 3128

server real proxy4 a.b.c.104

  port http l4-check-only

  port 3128

You do not need to define client or server ports - all ports are able to receive client and server traffic at the same time talking about the ServerIron. The next step would be the creation of the virtual servers with their services and the linkage in between the real server and the virtual servers:

server virtual vs100 x.y.z.100

  predictor round

  port http

bind http proxy1 http proxy2 http proxy3 http proxy4 http

server virtual vs101 x.y.z.101

  predictor round

  port 3128

  bind 3128 proxy1 3128 proxy2 3128 proxy3 3128 proxy4 3128

This is the same as your NAS 2424 SLB config above - I would suggest to think about some Layer 7 health checks because right now you are doing L4 health checks only.

My 2 cents...
