Link aggregation

Question.  I have a MLX-4 and I know that it supports trunking (i.e. 802.3ad) link aggregation.  However, does the MLX or any of brocades devices support layer three aggregated links such as Cisco's layer 3 port channels.

The devices I am connecting are MLX-4 and Juniper switch.  I have already got the configuration to work at layer 3 (with aggregated ports between the Cisco and Juniper, but I want to change it to a Brocade and Juniper layer 3 aggregate link.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Link aggregation

Hi UDP500

Layer 3 requirements:

The LAG is rejected if any of the secondary LAG port has any Layer 3 configurations, such as

IPv4 or IPv6 address, OSPF, RIP, RIPNG, IS-IS, and so on.

Example : LAG configured with LAG id 124.

!

lag "lag1" static id 124

ports ethernet 1/2 to 1/3

primary-port 1/3

deploy

Re: Link aggregation

Hi UDP500 - if you have not had any luck then the below should work for you.

Brocade

ADX Config for LACP active mode

Using the Default Key Assigned by the Software
ServerIronADX(config)# interface ethernet 1/1
ServerIronADX(config-if-e1000-1/1)# link-aggregate active
ServerIronADX(config)# interface ethernet 1/2
ServerIronADX(config-if-e1000-1/2)# link-aggregate active

Juniper

LACP with VLAN-Tagged Aggregated Ethernet

Configure aggregated Ethernet LACP over a VLAN-tagged interface:

fe-5/0/1 {

     fastether-options {

          802.3ad ae0;

     }

}

ae0 {

     aggregated-ether-options {

          lacp {

               pasive;

          }

     }

     vlan-tagging;

     unit 0 {

          vlan-id 100;

          family inet {

               address 10.1.1.2/24 {

                    vrrp-group 0 {

                         virtual-address 10.1.1.4;

                         priority 200;

                    }

               }

          }

     }

}

Re: Link aggregation

I also have similar questions. Is there a requirement that in Brocade device for LACP dynamic trunking, the lead port in the trunk group has to be a ODD numbered port??

We had issues seen when we connected the IBM NAS device to make a LACP trunk with fastiron FGS switch and LACPDUs were received on the port but trunk did not form. We used port number eth 0/1/2 and 0//1/4. However, when we used eth 0/1/1 and 0/1/2 switch same LACP configuration the trunk was formed.

Re: Link aggregation

Hi,

How much importance does ' link-aggregation key " have, when LACP is configured between ADX and Juniper switch. Can ADX work with system default key although Juniper already has configured " link-aggregation key ".

Re: Link aggregation

ADX and ODD port numbers;

That code is the latest code for a ServerIron ADX, There are no requirements for ODD port numbers on that device.

However the keys must match if you are doing a LACP over multi card, not sure if that was your issue or not.

Re: Link aggregation

Does " link-aggregation key " must match on both Server Iron ADX and Juniper Switch OR it is only device specific.

Re: Link aggregation

Hi brainwhistler

The key need only match on the device.  so if you have 4 ports in a LACP on the ADX - they need to have the same key.  On the Juniper the 4 ports also need to the same key. BUT they can be different values.

e.g. on ADX key = 6, on Juniper key 40 .
