> The Complacency Cycle has gotten so bad that even businesses in a supposedly free-market economy have basically outsourced all of our thinking and risk-taking to the government.
It wasn't complacency that outsourced the risk to the government and the taxpayer. It was 30 years of a laissez-faire economic philosophy that believed it was good business to leave the guarding of the hen house to the foxes on Wall Street, unless one is referring to the complacency of the voters who kept the politicians who enabled this with their relentless business deregulation in office.
What scares me is that this downturn wont be severe or long enough for those voters to relearn the lessons that their grandparents and greatgrandparents learned back in the 1930s. We had a preview of this back in the 1980s with the S&L Crisis, but a couple of 100 billion taxpayer bucks fixed that up so quick nobody learned.
No pain, no gain.
Mike,
Your words are inspiring, and I believe you echo the state of my nation (UK) in your deliberations.
It appears to me that the very people that created this terrible downturn are now the very people that work so hard to slow down recovery by taking the stance – ‘Bury your head in the sand’.
I recall your all hands earlier this year and the plan put forward to avoid the need for ‘lay-offs’. That was truly inspiring and I am sure I speak for many that it instilled a positive attitude within our workforce and dispelled a lot of ‘doom and gloom’.
The response to that call was admirable and shows the depth of support for your action within our workforce.
I believe it will take industry leaders such as yourself, with the weight of support you enjoy of your Brocadian Global team, to make the difference and bring about a renewed vigour for recovery, a working example to those that have lost the entrepreneurial spirit that drive economies around the Globe.
Thank you Mike
Yes i agree that the cycle of complacency has impacted our nation. It is not a unique scenario but its quite a shameful thing because it often leads to massive human misery. The idea of those whom are willing to take the challenge will be shattered. The cycle may be broken with the presence of great leaders work tenaciously. As Jeff in the earlier has said, 'NO PAIN, NO GAIN'.
Let this blog create an awareness and wishing Brocade a greater success. Im all thrilled to be a part of this blog!!
Thank you.
Shania
